Chapter Five

Trayvon couldn’t stand the sight of his new king, and standing in the chapel enduring a useless ceremony to respect him and his new bride was pissing him off. His sister was to walk the aisle with his sworn enemy in two days’ time. He was irritated even being present for the rehearsal.

“Try to behave.” Alabastian elbowed Trayvon in the ribs. He was both his friend and a trusted advisor, but that was something he didn’t want to hear.

“When have you known me to do otherwise?”

“You may be a prince, but you have always been hot-headed. This is for the best.” Alabastian smiled but Trayvon felt it was a fake smile.

“I’m just glad it’s not me up there.”

“Are you sure you want to go through with this? Martina’s marriage could bring peace to our kingdoms.”

“Not if I can help it,” Trayvon muttered just under his breath. “No tiger shark is ever going to marry a great white while under my reign.”

Tomorrow she was going into seclusion for twenty-four hours as was their custom before a mating ceremony, and this was his last chance to see her. Chances were low that he would be able to get her alone here.

Seoul was not a true warrior. He didn’t deserve to be in command. He was born to the role unlike Trayvon’s species of tiger sharks that fought for the right to be alpha.

His blood boiled just watching his new king walk down the aisle with his sister in tow. His hair was too perfect and his button-up shirt a little too tight. In his homeland, they would be in the water, marking their mating with their true tiger shark form, not on land so they could show off the power of their union and form allegiances with other species. This wedding was a joke. Their fathers may have felt bringing the two kingdoms together would help unite the kingdom, and his father may even have forced him to come and put on a good show, but that didn’t mean he had to like it.

He curled his lip in disdain and felt Shanghai’s critical eye land on him. Everyone around him nodded their head politely or bowed their head in respect to the power of Seoul and Martina as they walked by. Shanghai and Sichuan were directly behind the happy couple.

Trayvon was no one’s puppet. He met Seoul’s green-eyed glare boldly and didn’t offer the polite pretend-smile of so many others. Something rustled inside of his gut, and he felt a primitive wave take hold of his emotions. Seoul pretended to ignore the slight and walked forward with his bride to be in tow.

Shanghai stopped suddenly and furrows marked his forehead over his dark brows. His latest lover, a human pet no less, kept walking with the rest of the wedding party until he realized Shanghai left him alone.

Shanghai was inches from Trayvon’s face. He could smell the garlic on his breath from lunch, but the rules of engagement were simple. Trayvon could not attack.
